Gathering and analyzing facts is about collecting forensic evidence, witness statements (if possible) and gathering intelligence. All this information that is gathered is used to help find the suspect that committed the murder or possibly a potential lead to the murder. Witness statements can go either way when it comes to the statement, because the witness may be in shock which would mean that they may not be able to remember every thing that they saw so the statement could give out false information. Also forensic evidence could gather facts as well because they could determine if there was any gun shots or points of entry, as well as any type of shoe by looking at the sole and linking it to that type.
In the Billie-Jo Jenkins case Sion Jenkins was the forensic evidence that was found was blood splatter on his coat when Billie-Jo was lying in her own blood on the patio, Sion Jenkins picked her up and held her in her arms. A fact that was also brought up against Sion Jenkins was the car route he took going to the DIY store, were he did a full circle and then carried on to the store; this was another reason why he was brought up as a suspect and later convicted.
